In order to more accurately price out your shoot, I’ll need to know a couple of things.

PORTRAITURE: Is this for PERSONAL or COMMERCIAL or EDITORIAL use?

  • PERSONAL: implies an image that you have no intention of using to make money in any way. Making money includes marketing yourself in sales brochures, sending the image to a magazine as a bio shot, etc. A personal image is one you hang on your wall, gift to a friend, use for Facebook (however, not for facebook FAN pages)
  • COMMERCIAL: image will be used specifically to market yourself in brochures, advertisements, magazine author bios, self-marketing websites (such as this one), catalogues, stock photography, modeling for any advertisements: Essentially, you need this image because it will help you make money.
  • EDITORIAL: typically assigned by a photo-editor at a magazine, on assignment, to take a portrait of somebody. If assigning, please include location, travel dates, budget, and a general idea of what you want.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Is this for PERSONAL or COMMERCIAL or EDITORIAL use?

  • PERSONAL: implies an image that you have no intention of using to make money in any way. Making money includes marketing yourself in sales brochures, sending the image to a magazine as a bio shot, etc. A personal image is one you hang on your wall, gift to a friend, use for Facebook (however, not for facebook FAN pages)
  • COMMERCIAL: image will be used specifically to market yourself in brochures, advertisements, magazine author bios, self-marketing websites (such as this one), catalogues, stock photography, modeling for any advertisements: Essentially, you need this image because it will help you make money. Please include audience size, expected CPM, whether you’d like a one-time run or limitless licensing (i.e., royalty free). FOR ASSIGNED STOCK: Please include travel details, budget, turn-around time, estimated image count.
  • EDITORIAL: If assigning, please include location, travel dates, budget, and a general idea of what you want. (i.e., product shots, table top, studio, dressed-set studio, field, expected expenses, etc. If you’re reading this, you know what to tell me.

PHOTOJOURNALISM:

  • ASSIGNMENT: length, location, time, travel, budget, hazard precautions (combat photography), and how quickly you’d like me to get my ass on the plane.
  • PICKUP: type of media (print / online / online video / broadcast video / theatrical feature), audience size, how many shots you’d like, which shots you’d like, any special instructions, again, one-time or multiple run, etc. If you’re reading this, you know what to include :)

Thank you! I will likely contact you with some followup questions before I can offer a quote, but I am a strong, utility shooter, I make photojournalism an art, not simply a headline, and I’m happy to provide references from happy customers!
